Sketchbook Cleveland is a twice-monthly feature by South Euclid writer and illustrator Karen Sandstrom. With sketchbook in hand, Sandstrom scouts Northeast Ohio to find its celebrated and hidden treasures, documenting them in her inimitable style.
Sometimes the world's greatest treasures are right under our noses, often overlooked. The special collections room at the main branch of the Cleveland Public Library is one such treasure. It's one of Sandstrom's favorite locations in the city. Inside, visitors will find an intriguing selection of artifacts, books and more. This illustration captures the curiously curated collection of wonders to be found in one of Cleveland's true not-so hidden gems.
