At Cellar Door: the art of preservation

Since 2002, Marianne Frantz has been guiding wine enthusiasts as the founder of the American Wine School. Frantz is a member of the Society of Wine Educators and a Certified Wine Educator. She also holds a diploma in wine and spirits from the Wine and Spirit Education Trust and is a candidate for the Master of Wine. At Cellar Door in Beachwood, Ohio, Frantz runs American Wine School's tasting room, classroom and retail shop.

In this episode of At Cellar Door, Frantz talks with special guest Gary Gottfried of Ohio-based Vineyard Fresh. The product was designed and developed in Ohio, and is manufactured in the Buckeye State. Vineyard Fresh helps to preserve those open bottles of wine, using 100 percent inert argon gas to prevent oxidation. The gas coats the unfinished wine, without altering its flavor, and extends its shelf life by weeks. Here, Frantz and Gottfried put it to the test.

This episode's featured wines:

– 2005 Château Siaurac, Lalande de Pomerol AOC (France); varietal(s): blend

– 2007 Maison Joseph Drouhin, Morgon AOC (France); varietal: gamay

– 2008 Bodegas Campos Reales, La Mancha DO (Spain); varietal: tempranillo
