In 2007, students in in the Beachwood High School Marketing Education/Junior Achievement class created the Green Dream Eco-Friendly Showcase, a public venue where businesses and organizations could show how easy it was to go green. Now recognized as Ohio's largest eco-friendly showcase, the students continue to operate the Green Dream as a business and organize the Green Dream event, Ohio's largest green business fair.
To support these programs, the students put together the GREENLife Gala, a new event celebrating "eco-food, eco-fitness and eco-fashion." Slated for the evening of Saturday, February 26 at Progressive's corporate headquarters, the gala will feature healthy, locally sourced food prepared by chefs from fire food and drink, Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams, Moxie, Private Affair, Spice of Life, Vegiterranean, West Side Market and the Beachwood Bistro.
During the event, guests can view trendy, green outfits made from recycled and eco-friendly materials designed by students of the Virginia Marti College of Art and Design, including some garments available for purchase. Fitness and wellness demonstrations will feature yoga and belly dance. A special guest for the evening is mistress of ceremonies Sarah Backhouse, environmental leader and host of the Discovery Channel's Planet Green. Guests who purchase VIP tickets will enjoy a private reception, a tour of Progressive's art collection, a copy of the book Artwork: The Progressive Collection and reserved preferred seating.
Proceeds from the gala will benefit the fourth annual Green Dream event, scheduled for April 15 at the Beachwood Community Center. The day will feature wellness vendors, health screenings and other exhibitors. To purchase tickets for the gala, visit the Green Dream online or call Mr. Greg Perry, Beachwood High School, at 216-831-2080.
