Fashion Week Cleveland is grinding into gear for 2011, and the event staff is putting out the call for volunteers.

During the last five years, Fashion Week Cleveland volunteers have contributed 20,000 hours to the event, which typically takes place the first week of May. Events centered around art, fashion history, education and, of course, a gala party and runway show are all open to accepting volunteers. Sometimes called "the educational fashion week," Fashion Week Cleveland has previously featured exhibits, film screenings, tours, seminars and workshops. Last year, the theme of military influence on fashion included an event at the Chisholm Halle Costume Wing of the Western Reserve Historical Society.

Other fashion week events have included the popular unclothed: A Mixed Media Runway Event, internationally themed fashion events, pre-parties, cocktail events and the gala runway show featuring local, regional and national designers as well as student work from fashion programs at Kent State University, Ursuline College and Virginia Marti College of Art and Design.

Civic-minded folks with skills in event planning and management or an interest in the fashion industry are invited to join Fashion Week Cleveland committee meetings on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at Borders Book Store within La Place in Beachwood. The meetings are held from 6-7 pm and are open to anyone interested in volunteering.
