Many events claim to offer something for everyone, but few actually deliver. However, the 2010 Glenmoor Gathering of Significant Automobiles in Canton on September 19, with art displays, author-led book signings, eclectic food and drink, rich history, children's activities and arguably the finest collection of automobiles in Ohio, is geared for everyone.

Among this year's highlights is a rolling tribute to "The Historic Motorcars of Cleveland". This unique collection brings to life a time when Cleveland's automotive industry was booming, an entrepreneurial mecca and hotbed of innovation.

Attendees will see fabled Cleveland marques, such as Peerless, White, Winton and Stearns-Knight, in addition to lesser-known – yet no-less memorable – makes, including Templar, Chandler and Jordan. The precursors to today's modern electric car revolution may be seen in cars produced by Cleveland's Rauch & Lang and Baker.

Few car manufacturers command as much reverence as Duesenberg. The cars came to typify American elegance, fine craftsmanship and quickly became a favorite among Hollywood elite, such as Cary Grant. A special group of Duesenbergs will be among the Gathering's 16-year anniversary highlights, including four from the most prolific of all Duesenberg coachbuilders, Murphy of Pasadena, California.

Although he's not a household name per se, those with a passion for horsepower and passionate design are familiar with Italian designer Giotto Bizzarrini. Bizzarrini’s 50-plus year career included not only design and production of the Bizzarrini sports car, but also design work on the iconic Ferrari 250 GTO and earliest Lamborghini V12 powerplants. His superlative engineering will be showcased in the form of a group of ultra rare automobiles. The rest of the pastoral Gathering grounds will include many more American and European antique and classic autos that will inevitably conjure memories, nostalgia and a liberal dose of envy. Serving as honorary chairman of the 2010 Gathering will be Keith Martin, noted automotive personality and expert, publisher of Sports Car Market, the leading magazine chronicling collector car marketplace values; and host of TVs What's My Car Worth?

For two-wheeled aficionados, "Super-Bikes" from the 1960s to today will showcase the finest works of legendary producers Aprilia, Benelli, Bimota, Ducati, Moto-Guzzi and MV Agusta.

Also new this year is the Grande Salon Antique and Classic Car Auction on Saturday, September 18. It will be conducted by Classic Motorcar Auctions of Canton, Ohio, headed by longtime collector Bob Lichty.

During the 2010 concours, automotive art by a variety of artists will be displayed and offered for sale. The 2010 poster artwork will feature a unique American classic born in Cleveland: the one-of-a-kind 1932 Peerless Sixteen sedan prototype designed and built by Murphy Coachworks, from the collections of the Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum. The 2010 poster artist is Ken Dallison of Mississaugua, Ontario, a founder of the Automotive Fine Arts Society. Other notable artists appearing at the event include Tom Hale, Alex Buchan, Tony Sikorski and Dennis Reardon. Several automotive authors will be signing their books, including Kevin Wilson of Auto Week, Phil Berg, author of Ultimate Garages and Peter Harholdt, photographer of The Art of the Muscle Car.

Another tasty throwback to the more relaxed pace of yesteryear are the picnic baskets for two, including a souvenir picnic basket, lawn blanket, two wine glasses and lunch for two. Picnic baskets must be ordered in advance by calling 330-966-3600. Cost is $75. An expansive buffet will also be available at 11 am, in addition to grilled items, prepared foods and spirits, and Glenmoor Country Club's award-winning executive chef Brendan Meeker will lead cooking demonstrations. Sugardale Foods will sponsor a kids coloring contest, and all participants will receive a complimentary coloring book filled with vintage and classic automobiles. Young and old may find interest in the display of scale models – toys for all ages.

Proceeds from this year's Gathering are designated for Mercy Medical Center's Emergency Department Expansion and Renovation project.
