Lighting up the Warehouse District

When the weather takes a dip into colder territory, we're all likely to look for comfort food. This week's "Fresh Start" is all about local connections, with local food helping to provide that comfort and move that needle upward a bit. The Local Food Cleveland Network, Emerging Chefs and a Warehouse District Tour are sure to please. If you're feeling warmer – or perhaps wishing for second helpings – after this trio of events, it stands to reason.

The Future of (Local) Food

Local Food Cleveland Network is hosting a special gathering this Monday, December 6, focused on (you guessed it) Northeast Ohio's local food future. An omnivore's delight, food, drink and conversation about local food trends, economic opportunities and connections takes place at The Greenhouse Tavern from 5:30-7:30 pm. Happy hour specials, including the restaurant's happy hour Ohio beef burger [pictured], help fortify the event. Want to know the who, what, where and what's next? Be there. Party Like a Prohibition

Emerging Chefs latest event, “Prohibition Party at the Speakeasy”, toasts the 77th Anniversary of Prohibition’s Repeal: a night where, in Cleveland, celebrations spread from downtown’s entertainment district on Short Vincent to West 25th. The night of Depression-era cocktails, music and dancing takes place this Tuesday, December 7 at Speakeasy, located under in the lauded Bar Cento-Bier Markt complex. The shindig features the culinary expertise of Executive Chef Michael Nowak, who promises to add culinary depth and character straight out of the 1930s.

A Warehouse of Good Cheer

It's a must-do for those who've been before, and very much a way to get into the holiday spirit. It's the annual holiday tour of the food-centric Warehouse District and it hits this Wednesday, December 8 starting at 5:30 pm. Tours of the oldest commercial center in Cleveland are paired with food from the district's finest establishments, and it all benefits the Historic Warehouse District Development Corp. Soak up the "reinvestment" vibe and see how downtown dwellers and diners alike enjoy the neighborhood and all it offers. The tour kicks off at the Bridgeview Apartments atrium and will hit all the nooks and crannies. Learn more here
