The force of collaboration is strong this week

Flavor of the Independents: Cleveland Restaurant Week

What happens when the region sees real collaboration? Real forward progress, that’s what. This week’s "Fresh Start" proves that when local restaurateurs, designers, artists and cultural elites can find a way to mesh and meld their talents with one another, magic happens. It’s also far easier to compete for the attentions of Northeast Ohioans when cannibalizing is banished from the area’s creative culture. Witness the proof – amazing tastes, sights and sounds of the area – with four amazing must-do’s put on by a culinary partnership, an indomitable design spirit, an avant-garde gallery and a cultural institution.

A Week to Savor

It’s a sumptuous sweet-and-savory spectacular. It’s called Cleveland Restaurant Week, and if you love food and drink, you simply must partake. CRW is actually two weeks long, but deservedly so: dozens of area restaurants participate, offering delectable takes on food for an exciting three-course, prix fixe option for a recession-busting $30. A bevy of award-winning locations are involved, including hotspots Bistro 185, Chinato, Crop Bistro, Greenhouse Tavern, Luxe, Parallax, Sun Luck Garden and Thyme the Restaurant. While menus may vary, discovering bright new flavors and new favorites is guaranteed during this gastronomy fête.The promotion runs through mid-month. Factory Fresh

You may not want to hear it, but with fewer than 60 days until Christmas, it's officially time to start shopping. Fortunately, Cleveland's artistic community offers no shortage of opportunities to find great one-of-a-kind items for everyone on your list - or just for yourself. On Saturday, November 6, the Screw Factory Artists' Annual Holiday Open Studio will kick off the festive holiday shopping season, featuring great gifts from artists working in mosaics, fiber art, painting, portraiture, ceramics, glass and more. Participating artists include Gina DeSantis, Shannon Okey, Arabella Proffer, Kate Tobin, Michael Hudecek, Robb Durr, Katie Hanrahan, Ann Brown, Libby Chaney, Karen Jewell-Kett, Marc Konys, Sam Meador, Michelle Mowery, M.C. Nagel, Ann Onusko, Ursula Ryan, Ryu no Sakebi, Achala Wali, Michelle Murphy and Dorene Warner. The Templar autos will be on display on the third floor, along with Lakewood is Art. Friends of Madison Park will provide gift wrapping for shoppers. The Lake Erie Building is located at 13000 Athens Ave, Lakewood. For updates and more information, click here.
